In Shenzhen, where cameras are as constant as weather, analyst Lixhua has spent seventeen months building a case in the quiet hour after 2:00 AM, while her daughter Sela sleeps across the hall. The trail runs through seventeen institutions in four jurisdictions and leads to a program that has been modeling her own life for years.
As the case reaches an offshore platform in the South China Sea and a custody fight over her son Kai, Lixhua must learn how much of her family was placed in her path by design, and what remains outside the design.
A technological thriller about surveillance, motherhood and the freedom no design can contain.
